Four Dog Boarding Training Untruths

by Violet Perry

Dog boarding training is a practice that some people speak highly of while others view it unfavorably. However, when it comes to those who frown upon the practice, their opposition is often based on incorrect information. Taking the time to identify untruths about boarding training is helpful.

Scaring Dogs Into Submission

Boarding training has nothing to do with scaring a dog or submission. Instead, the process is all about redirection and guidance. So, this idea is simply not true for anyone who thinks the practice is inhuman. Trainers work with these animals to help deter them from unwanted behaviors by redirecting the dog towards more positive behaviors, for which they receive rewards, such as treats or affection. Dogs look at the training as an enjoyable activity that offers them a reward.

Unsafe Condition for Pets

The word boarding sometimes comes with a negative connotation, but boarding facilities for dogs do not deserve this representation. In addition to caring staff who genuinely love working with animals, these facilities have strict health and vaccination guidelines for all pets who enter the facility to keep everyone safe. Even still, each pet's interaction with other pets is closely monitored. Additionally, they have direct relationships with local veterinaries to ensure they can respond to any unexpected medical emergencies.

Fosters Aggression in Animals

Going back to the concerns about scaring the dogs or forcing them to be submissive, some people believe the boarding environment will foster a sense of aggression. However, the important thing to remember is that these trainers are professionals. They know how to engage with dogs so that the animal does not feel like they are being forced into a situation, which is something that can cause aggression. Trainers treat each pet individually and consider the dog's temperament, discipline level, and history to determine how they will approach their training.

Owner-Pet Relationship Decline

The relationship between an owner and a pet is significant. As a result, some owners fear that sending their pets away will cause their relationship to decline. However, in the same way, that you do not forget about your family members after going away, your pet will not forget about you. One reason for this misconception is the belief that boarding training means months and months away from your pet. However, boarding training can be completed over a family vacation or other short periods.
